Grace Meeking (SCHOOL PRINCIPAL)

Grace began dancing at the age of 5 at Roshe Performing Arts in Felbridge, taking exams in Ballet, Tap, Modern and Jazz Dance. Grace took part in many shows at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley and successfully auditioned for the Weald Theatre Group Pantomime at Clair Hall in Haywards Heath. At 16 Grace gained a place at The Brit School for Performing Arts where she studied on their Dance diploma course for two years. She then went on to train at Performers College in Essex where she studied Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Jazz, Singing and Acting gaining her Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre.

Grace has appeared as a dancer on both Children In Need and Text Santa and has also performed at the Daisy Ball at Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Since graduating in 2013 Grace has taught both dance and musical theatre at a number of different schools and dance clubs. In summer 2014 Grace travelled to Maine in America to work for a children’s summer camp. She took on the role of director of dance and put together two large performances whilst at camp.

In 2015 Grace decided to open her own dance school ‘Gracie Grooves Dance Studio’ providing classes from the Melody Movement syllabus created by Jill Bridger. Since then the school has grown and we now offers classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Musical Theatre and Street Dance for children aged 3 years and over!

Linking and liaising

At Happy Feet we are committed to providing the best possible care for the children that we can and to do this we ensure if we have children of shared settings we co-ordinate regularly with the other setting, sharing developmental information about your child, with your permission, to progress their development.

Further to this we hold very strong relationships with the local schools that we have achieved over the years to ensure that we can provide a smooth transition process for both you and your child when the time comes. Our local school links are primarily Hassocks Infants School, Ditchling C of E, St Lawrence and Hurstpierpoint college, with occasionally feeding into Burgess Hill schools. We are here to help you every step of the way.

Buttercups & Bluebells

In our Baby Rooms we care and nurture children from 3 months - 24 months. We strive to create a home from home environment by supporting each babies individual needs and routines to ensure a consistent and secure base for them to explore, learn, play and rest. With having the continuity from the same staff being in the room each day.

We ensure the time for both children and parents to build relationships with their key worker from their first settle to their transition to the toddler room.

We plan the children's next steps in learning based on the EYFS guidelines and welcome parental input into their child's development. Activities are planned on a weekly basis based on the children's interests and targets, these are clearly displayed on the baby room board.

We offer a variety of toys and resources to support and stimulate the babies from any age and those at different stages of development. We encourage sensory and messy play and like to take our babies out into the garden on a daily basis. When the babies need a rest, we have a separate sleep room where each baby has their own cot.

We strive to encourage independence, where possible, and can support your babies dietary and weaning needs.

In the Toddler Room we look after children from the age of 2-3years. Following on from the baby room, we incorporate more structure into our daily routine with elements such as circle time being introduced, and supporting the children and parents in developing the children’s independence in preparing them for Pre-School.

To help prepare the children for Pre-School we combine the children’s interests with the EYFS guidelines to further their development by creating next steps in learning.

In the toddler room we start to look at basic maths and literacy skills as well as engaging the children’s imaginations in role play and story times. The children really enjoy creative and messy activities and getting outdoors to explore.

In the toddler room we recognise that some children will still require sleep during their time at nursery, therefore we provide floor beds for those children to sleep on as well as encourage those who do not, to have a rest and some quiet time to balance out their active days.

Blossoms

The Pre-School Room cares for and nurtures children between the ages of 3-5years. In our Pre-School we thrive off watching and helping the children prepare for their transition to School.

We follow the EYFS, working alongside parents to help their child reach their full potential. We strive in creating a positive atmosphere for you and your child, encouraging them to grow and develop a range of skills based on their interests.

When preparing your child for the transition to school, we aim for them to be able to recognise and write their own name and other letters of the alphabet. We also encourage the children's mathematical skills in a range of different ways such as counting and recognising numbers at circle time, while learning the days of the week and months of the year.

As a team we support their communication and social skills with adults and children to help guide your child in new social situations.
